Trail Builders Grow Their Skills at Regional Summit

May 3-5 | Weaverville, CA - Recently, Access4Bikes sent three of our volunteer builders to the Northern California Singletrack Summit hosted by The Watershed Research and Training Center in Weaverville, CA. Along with other representatives from regional organizations and agencies, they were immersed in a three-day mountain biking and trail advocacy event.

The summit kicked off with an intensive rock masonry class led by local forest service professionals. Attendees learned traditional and Mallorcan stacking methods and got hands-on experience hammering crush rock and stacking.

Day 2 featured presentations from partner organizations and agencies, including local trail groups, city planners, the forest service, and from the International Mountain Bike Association. Topics ranged from fundraising strategies to grant writing insights. There was also a hugely insightful and productive Q&A session with the forest service followed by a brainstorming session on ways to enhance collaboration between organizations.

The summit concluded with an incredible shuttle day on the Sweepstakes trail, a 4.8-mile downhill descent with 2,000 feet of elevation drop. Riding and learning alongside other trail builders, our volunteer crew gained firsthand insights into the trail-building process and celebrated the vibrant mountain biking community in Weaverville.

Thanks goes to the Watershed Research and Training Center and its partners for putting on such a fun and engaging summit! We can’t wait to integrate our new skills and knowledge into our trail building and partner engagement at A4B.
